Oprah Is Calling It Quits

Before you get the hanky out, know that Oprah calling it quits with her highly successful, long running daytime talk show is about like Jay Leno leaving “The Tonight Show.” By the time it actually happens, we will probably have forgotten it is happening or be well over the shock of her leaving. Oprah made the announcement today that she will be ending “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 2011, after 25 years on the air. In case you are wondering what impact the end of the show will have, it is currently viewed in 145 countries around the world and … Continue reading

Famous Oprah Moments – Part 4

It seems that the memorable Oprah moments just never end! Here are a few more: Oprah’s Tearful Moment Oh sure, Oprah has shed more than one tear over the years, but when she hosted author Truddi Chase, she really broke down. Chase wrote “When Rabbit Howls,” a memoir of her tragic childhood in which she was raped by her stepfather. Oprah broke into tears when introducing Chase and asked the cameraman to stop filming her. Oprah too was a victim of sexual abuse, having been raped at the age of nine and giving birth to a son who died in … Continue reading

Famous Oprah Moments – Part 3

Over the past 22 years, there have been many memorable Oprah moments. Some made us laugh, some made us cry, and some just made us angry, but most of them touched us in some way. Here’s a few more famous Oprah moments: Oprah and James Frey Even if you didn’t see either show, you probably know the history of Oprah and James Frey – it was pretty big literary news. Oprah chose Frey’s “A Million Little Pieces” as one of her book club selections and praised it. With her help, Frey sold millions of copies of his memoir that chronicled … Continue reading

Famous Oprah Moments – Part 2

So, this week, I am talking about famous Oprah moments. After all, the groundbreaking talk show host has been on television for 22 years, there has to be a few incredible moments other than just Tom Cruise’s couch jumping. Here are some more remarkable Oprah moments: Oprah Interviews Betty Broderick In 1992, Oprah had a bit of a Geraldo moment when she interviewed murderer Betty Broderick. Broderick had killed her husband and his lover, but Oprah wanted to get behind the real story. As Betty put it, attorney Dan Broderick and she had had a perfect marriage until he fell … Continue reading

Famous Oprah Moments – Part 1

If you read one of Michele’s recent blogs, you know that Tom Cruise is appearing on the Oprah show again. This is the first time since his infamous couch-jumping incident. When Oprah asked him if he would take it back if he could, Cruise replied, “It was a moment and it was real” and “I just felt that way…That was just how I felt.” I am assuming that is a no. Then, Tom playfully accused Oprah of egging him on. This time, there was no manic couch jumping as Cruise put on the cruise control. But, there have been more … Continue reading

Top Gun Landmark Burns

In my opinion, the film Top Gun was the one that boosted Tom Cruise to superstar status, a place he hasn’t left despite his strange Scientology ramblings and couch jumping ways. The film, which has grossed over $353 million both nationally and internationally, has become a huge part of pop culture. The movie received four Oscar nominations, although it only won one (for Best Music, Original Song). There are plenty of pop culture references to Top Gun. There is a FedEx ad in which a carpet warehouse guide radios a co-worker when he sees a flying carpet getting away – … Continue reading

Tom Cruise Loves… Tom Cruise

If you want something done right you should do it yourself. It’s a philosophy Tom Cruise appears to subscribe to. The movie star just launched a new website devoted to… well, himself. I know what you’re thinking: There are thousands of narcissistic entertainers in Hollywood and Cruise surely is not the first to create a website for fans. You’re right, but Cruise’s new entry on the World Wide Web is of particular interest because he more than just about any celebrity has been the subject of numerous YouTube-able moments in the past couple of years. Do you realize how many … Continue reading

A View of “The View’s” New Season

Did greed get in the way of making the ladies a quintet? Will Elizabeth give birth on air? And will Whoopi really last the entire season? Those questions and more should be answered in the coming weeks as ABC’s daytime chatfest kicks off its 11th season on September 4th. Yesterday the network unveiled the official promo shot for “The View,” and new moderator Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t look as uncomfortable as I thought she might. I know she willing took the job, so why should she look repulsed in the shot that has a very pregnant Elizabeth Hasselbeck smashed up against … Continue reading
