Drew Hits the Track and the President of the United States Hooks Up with Howie

What is it with “Dancing with the Stars” winners and the need for speed? Last season’s winner Helio Castroneves was an Indy-race car driver long before he took a turn on the dance floor, but now it appears DWTS champ (from season two) Drew Lachey wants to burn rubber too. Lachey recently ditched his dancing shoes for four wheels that move faster than pro partner Cheryl Burke’s hips. The former member boy bander qualified Friday for the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race, a 10-lap charity race that is part of 34th annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach and just yesterday he … Continue reading

Is Derek Done Dancing?

Forget about Jessica Simpson… my boy Derek Hough was taken to the hospital for a real emergency. Luckily, it wasn’t serious enough to keep him from standing by his partner Shannon Elizabeth last night on Dancing with the Stars’ results show, but still… According to news reports, DWTS pro Hough injured his neck while he was rehearsing a routine with his sister Julianne and fellow Dancing pro Mark Ballas. Show producers say an ambulance was called and Hough was taken away on a stretcher as a precaution and sent to a nearby hospital for tests. Fortunately, doctors say the 22-year-old … Continue reading

Did They Or Didn’t They?

You know when rumors have hit a fever pitch when stars actually respond to them. Such is the case with former “Dancing with the Stars” champs Drew Lachey and his pro partner Cheryl Burke. Star magazine is reporting that the flexible dancing duo had an affair. But, that’s not the worst part. The folks at Star say the alleged tryst was discovered by Burke’s then-boyfriend Matthew Lawrence, kid brother of former “Dancing” contestant Joey Lawrence. Hmm… I always wondered why those two split. According to Star, “sources say Matthew found his girlfriend cheating when he went to retrieve something from … Continue reading

“Dancing with the Stars” News—Maks and Cheryl Making Headlines

Looks like there’s good news for you Cheryl Burke fans who paid to see the two-time “Dancing with the Stars” champ bust a move in person. Doctors have cleared the flexible 23-year-old to rejoin her pals on the current “Dancing with the Stars” national tour. Earlier this week Burke contracted a mystery illness and was forced to sit out two shows—-including opening night in Seattle, and another performance in Sacramento. According to a tour spokesperson, Burke “is not suffering from appendicitis,” despite being rushed to a Seattle hospital with severe abdominal pain. Yesterday Matthew Lawrence’s girlfriend was examined by her … Continue reading

Writers Strike Update: So Long to “The Office” and “24”

Can’t we all just get along? It’s Day 4 of the writers strike and the news doesn’t look good for TV fans. In addition to the shows I listed in my previous blog, producers say the writers strike has now claimed the Fox thriller “24.” Executives at Fox say they have removed the show from its midseason schedule. Producers say the show will return when it can air uninterrupted. Like most series written by members of the Writers Guild of America, “24” simply doesn’t have enough scripts to sustain a full season. Which means programming execs have had to do … Continue reading

Pop Culture Potpourri: Rosie’s Return and the “Dancing” Tour

ROSIE’S RETURN There’s no keeping her away. Rosie O’Donnell is ready for primetime. But are you ready for Rosie on primetime? While nothing has been set in stone, new reports confirm that the former daytime talk show host turned “View” basher is hooking up with cable news channel MSNBC to host her own show. According to The New York Times, O’Donnell is currently in discussions with MSNBC, but no deal has been inked. The paper says various scenarios are being considered including giving O’Donnell a primetime slot that would pit her show against Hannity & Colmes on FOX News Channel … Continue reading

Marie’s Thud Heard Round the World

Ouch! That’s gotta hurt. No. I’m not referring to the painful drop “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Marie Osmond took after her samba routine. I’m referring to the scores the judges flashed when the singer came to. Osmond got 21 out of 30 possible points for her show-stopping samba. Actually, it was what occurred after her samba that stopped the show. Right before the judges started to give their verbal assessments of her dance with partner Jonathan Roberts, a visibly winded Osmond collapsed on the ballroom floor. Roberts and host Tom Bergeron leaned down to assist her before sending the … Continue reading

“Dancing’s” Samantha Harris Under Fire

Did you watch “Dancing with the Stars” last night? While the contestants and the audience were up in arms about the brouhaha regarding illegal lifts, viewers at home were fired up about another portion of the program. Namely co-host Samantha Harris. Harris returned to the show last night for the first time since giving birth to her first child three weeks ago. The decision obviously didn’t sit well with millions of fans who took their ire to dozens of Internet chat rooms and message boards. MAN! I am glad I’m not Harris. That woman is being raked over the coals … Continue reading

Musicians Getting and Giving Aid

GETTING AID At 26 years old you’d think singer Isaac Hanson would be in the prime of his life. However, the guitarist for the all-brother group Hanson recently came close to losing it all during a concert in Dallas. That’s when he says his shoulder started swelling and his right arm became numb. “Having had this happen before, I started to be really suspicious of what it was,” Hanson told reporters. “In the middle of the show, I said to someone: ‘We may need to go to the hospital.’ ” Hanson was able to make it through the show, but … Continue reading

Polka, Rodeos, and Tractor Pulls—Oh My!

Think there’s nothing but gory, raunchy trash on TV nowadays? Well, you’re obviously not working your remote hard enough. If you are looking for a place to kick up your heels to the sounds of polka music, cheer on men who compete on tractors, and pick up tips on how to train mules (parents with head strong teens take note) then remember these letters: RFD-TV. The call letters were chosen as a reference to “Rural Free Delivery,” the mail service used in rural America. Before RFD, residents living in rural areas had to travel to the nearest post office to … Continue reading
