Start Your Own Fundraiser

Edward Norton is one of my favorite green celebrities. He raised $1.2 million for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust when he ran in the New York Marathon last fall. He has now set up a web site where you can raise money for your favorite charity as well. Crowdrise is the web site that helps you create your own fundraising page. Crowdrise promises it will take less than a minute – unless you are a slow typer of course. It is actually three simple steps to get started. You enter your personal info, such as name and email, upload a … Continue reading

A List of 10 Green Celebrities

I have blogged about green celebrities such as Woody Harrelson and Robert Redford in the past, but here is a list of 10 more actors and actresses that are doing their part for the environment: 10. Alicia Silverstone Silverstone has a LA house that is equipped with solar panels and she has an organic vegetable garden out back. A long time vegetarian, she has also worked with EcoTools to create a beauty product and bag line made of hemp and other recycled material. 9. Will Ferrell Oh sure he’s funny, but Ferrell is also serious when he supports the National … Continue reading

Edward Norton Blasts the Media

I just love Edward Norton – have ever since I saw him play Aaron Stampler so well in Primal Fear. However, he has been involved in a few controversies while making films. First was during (and after) 1998’s American History X, for which he won an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Back in July 1998, director Tony Kaye was pushing New Line Cinema to use his editing cut of the film. However, New Line Cinema was leaning towards the version of the film that used their own people, the film’s producer, Bill Carraro, and star Edward Norton. Kaye was … Continue reading

Favorite Movie Villains: Who Didn’t Make the Cut

As you probably know if you have been reading my villain blog series, Entertainment Weekly released their 50 favorite movie villains list. This list was comprised by the EW staff. But, it seems they left off quite a few fan favorites! Fans couldn’t believe EW missed Glenn Close as Marquise Merteuil in Dangerous Liaisons. Personally, I am offended that both EW and fans missed the ultimate female villain, beautiful yet demented Alex Forrest, played by Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. I am sure plenty of us could relate when she told Michael Douglas “I’m not going to be ignored, Dan!” … Continue reading

Do You Know Which Celebrities Your Spouse Finds Attractive?

I’m wondering because for Wayne it’s Britney Spears. Hands down. Has been for a while now. He used to admit it openly. Before it became overwhelmingly obvious what a train wreck she really was. He laughed off her first marriage. But let me tell you how fast he raised his hand when we went to her concert a few years back. She was talking to the audience between songs and asked something about needing someone to keep her company, any volunteers? He forgave her marrying Kevin Federline, but rejoiced at the news of their divorce. But then it became apparent … Continue reading

Marriage First, Love Second?

Last week I watched The Painted Veil and was swept away by the love story. Which at first wasn’t much of a love story. Naomi Watts played Kitty, a vain, spoiled selfish young woman whose parents –her mother in particular—want to see her married. (I should add the story is set in the 1920s when even more emphasis was placed on women marrying.) At a party, her father invites Dr. Walter Fane (played by Edward Norton), a quiet, reserved young man he hopes will catch Kitty’s eye. He doesn’t so much catch her eye as he does catch her off … Continue reading

Reverend Jerry Falwell as Part of Pop Culture

I was a bit surprised when I searched Families and found no blogs about the passing of Reverend Jerry Falwell this past week. I know I must tread lightly as a blog about him seems more appropriate in a religion or even the education category as he was the founder of Liberty University. But, Reverend Falwell was certainly often in the public eye and I think he has a place in pop culture. He had two fairly public battles – one with a magazine publisher and a children’s televison character. The first public battle I remember was with publisher Larry … Continue reading

Salma Hayek Breaks Her Silence About Her Pregnancy… and Baby Names

When I first heard the news that actress Salma Hayek was pregnant and engaged to her businessman boyfriend I was shocked. (Maybe it was because I always thought she and longtime former boyfriend, actor Edward Norton would one day reconcile.) However, I wasn’t surprised that Hayek was reluctant to confirm the news when the story first broke. Rather, she was photographed wearing oversized outfits in what some critics speculated was an effort to hide the pregnancy. Now, the truth about her impending new offspring is finally being revealed. The actress recently sat down with a reporter from Marie Claire magazine … Continue reading

Juicy Hollywood Tidbits – April 18, 2007

In the wake of the Virginia Tech tragedy, small pieces of Hollywood news keep trickling in. Here is some of the latest: He’s a Hunk, but Is He a Hulk? The answer is, apparently, yes! If you have read a few of my past blogs, you know I absolutely love Edward Norton. Now, he has been named to play scientist/superhero Bruce Banner in the big screen version of The Incredible Hulk. While the 2003 version Hulk was only a modest success at the box office and garnered mostly poor reviews, Marvel and Universal Pictures is hoping this one will do … Continue reading

Hollywood Mom-To-Be and Her Mysterious Suitor

Whoa! This one came out of left field. In one fell swoop actress Salma Hayek announced she was getting married and having a baby (though the order of the events is still in question). According to news sources, the award-winning Hollywood A-lister is engaged to businessman boyfriend François-Henri Pinault – and she’s pregnant with his child. Francois-Henri who? I’ve followed Hayek’s love life close enough to know that she was no longer seeing actor Edward Norton (they dated for four years until 2003) and I know she split with Josh Lucas in 2004, but pledging to spend the rest of … Continue reading
