John Cena Talks Smack about Dwayne Johnson

Do you remember when Dwayne Johnson just went by the name The Rock and talked about the People’s Elbow? Yeah, neither do most of those at the Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards show he hosted last night. Wrestler turned actor John Cena appeared on the award show last night, but Cena doesn’t seem to completely agree with the path Johnson has taken. Johnson came from a family of wrestling legacy (both is father Rocky Johnson and maternal grandfather Peter Maivia were wrestlers), but he hasn’t wrestled in the WWE full time since 2003. After an attempt at the obvious action hero … Continue reading

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Reinvents Himself – Part I

We have a WWE clock in our garage that my husband has had for at least eight years. Every once in while when I am coming in from the car, I heard The Rock say “Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?” In case you haven’t noticed, what The Rock is cooking up is a new image for himself. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has gone from WWE superstar to movie star in a small amount of time and very successfully, I might add. He is even getting a new name – his old one. If you look at the … Continue reading

Presidential Smackdown

Now here’s a wrestling match I have a feeling many Americans would pay to view: Barack Obama vs. Hillary Rodham Clinton vs. John McCain. Unfortunately, the closest most of us will likely get to seeing a presidential smackdown is a rerun of last night’s war of words between the candidates on World Wrestling Entertainment’s live “Monday Night Raw.” The ultra-hyped “smackdown” turned out to be more of a stumping with each candidate delivering a wrestling-themed verbal attack. The taped messages appeared on USA network’s most popular primetime show in advance of tonight’s Pennsylvania primary. “Tonight, in honor of the WWE, … Continue reading

Kids Choice Award Nominees

I guess since I have a preschooler, I should begin paying more attention to this stuff. But frankly, unless the Backyardigans or Wonder Pets show up, I think Will could careless about these awards – for now at least. But, I am sure my time is coming! Nickelodeon announced the nominees for its Oscars yesterday – the 21st annual Kids Choice Awards. Who received the most nominations? Shrek the Third received four nominations – Favorite Animated Movie and three nominations for Voice from an Animated Movie (for Michael Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz). Miley Cyrus, who seems to be … Continue reading

Movies News: Chan’s No Fan and The Rock’s The Man

I was a bit disappointed to read the Yahoo headline that said “Jackie Chan No Fan of ‘Rush Hour’ Series. I love the Rush Hour trilogy! He and Chris Tucker could just keep on making them and I would keep on watching. Jackie said that when he released the original Rush Hour in 1998, he was just testing the U.S. market and really didn’t have high hopes for the film. He may not have had high hopes, but the film went on to earn $141 million at the box office. Jackie said after filming, he felt disappointed and didn’t like … Continue reading

Update on the Chris Benoit Tragedy

Maybe wrestling fans finally have an answer to why one of the favorites unexpectedly freaked out. Beloved WWE Superstar Chris Benoit shocked the wrestling world when he killed his wife, son, and then took his own life earlier this year. People wanted to blame it on steroids – roid rage as it is called. But, after the tragedy happened, I read a news blurb from a former wrestler who said he thought it was brain damage brought about by repeated concussions. I only read that one article on that theory, but now it seems as if it may be true. … Continue reading

The People on Television

I grew up with television. I mean literally television to this day comforts me. When it is on, it is as if an old friend has come over to the house. But, I have a problem. I take everything I see at face value. This whole Chris Benoit thing has really messed me up this week. First, we heard he, his wife, and seven-year-old son were dead. I must guiltily admit that after I heard they were found in their home, I thought maybe someone had snapped and killed the family. And I don’t mean someone from outside the home. … Continue reading

WWE Superstar Chris Benoit: 1967 – 2007

I think I have mentioned it here before, but I have a secret…I am a closet wrestling fan. Yes, I know it is not real, but neither are television shows or movies and I love those just the same. I grew up watching wrestling. Seriously, I was a teen when Jerry “The King” Lawler, now an announcer for the WWE, was in his wrestling heyday. My husband started watching wrestling later in life than I did. He was in his thirties when he was conned into watching it by his then-roommate. But, shortly thereafter, he was hooked too. We didn’t … Continue reading

Ashton Kutcher Tops the Weekend Box Office?

I liked Ashton Kutcher when I first saw him on “That 70’s Show.” I have seen a couple of his movies (Dude, Where’s My Car?, Just Married, and The Butterfly Effect) and never thought I would write these words, but… Ashton Kutcher movies came out on top of this weekend’s box office. Not that Ashton is a bad actor, but he hardly seems to be made of the same material from which box office leaders are cut. And lately, all his press seems to have come from being married to Demi Moore and as the producer of MTV’s “Punk’d.” But … Continue reading
