Prince Harry Adds to a Long Line of Royal Scandals – Part 2

Earlier in the week, I blogged about Prince Harry and his recent naked in Vegas photo scandal. Reports are surfacing that the royal family is still behind the young prince and why not? There have been royal scandals in England for quite some time now. Here are a few that might put Harry’s antics to shame: King Edward VIII abdicated the thrown to marry Wallis Simpson. Not only was she American, but she had been divorced – twice – and it was later revealed she was a Nazi sympathizer. Harry’s aunt, Princess Anne, was married to Mark Phillips. That in … Continue reading

He Said, She Said: Drew Peterson Engagement

Drew Peterson, the retired policeman who has been in the news since his fourth wife, Stacy, turned up missing, recently ended an engagement – that is, if he was truly ever engaged. Peterson had reportedly asked girlfriend Christina Raines to marry him. However, after Raines moved herself and son out of Peterson’s home, she told the media that the whole engagement was just a stunt. Last Monday, Raines and her father Ernie appeared on CBS’ “The Early Show” to tell Lisa Bloom that the whole relationship was created just so Peterson could be in the news. She had originally met … Continue reading

Dr. Phil Smells Fresh Meat and Her Name is Britney Spears

Quick… name the one person you would have least expected to show up at Britney Spears’s hospital room to offer psychological aid to the embattled songstress. Okay, besides Robin Williams. If you answered Dr. Phil McGraw go out and buy yourself a lottery ticket. Dr. Phil… Britney Spears… could the insanity meter gauging this drama peak any more? You’ve got a 26-year-old head shaving, bird flipping, finger lickin’ mother of two young sons who appears to have serious psychological problems and you throw an oversized, over-hyped, TV quack into the mix… Apocalypse now. And the sad part is that Dr. … Continue reading

Why Dr. Phil?

“American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks belted out “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.” Country singer Wilson crooned “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.” Even 12-year-old “America’s Got Talent” champ Bianca Ryan chimed in with her rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” And, let’s not forget pop-opera quartet Il Divo’s take on the holiday classic “White Christmas.” All incredibly talented singers and worthy of being invited to perform at the annual “Christmas in Washington” concert at the National Building Museum. However, there was one name (okay, two) on the list that made me raise an eyebrow– TV talk show … Continue reading

Dr. Phil to Explore Homeschooling

This Friday, Dr. Phil will weigh in on homeschooling on a show entitled “The Great School Debate”. I have only seen one tiny bit of the trailer, which seemed to imply that perhaps if you’re unschooling, you’re not really learning. But that was only a 2 minutes segment of an hour long show–so perhaps what I got out of it was just dead wrong. Dr. Phil stirred up the homeschooling community a few years ago when he touted on his national TV show that there was no social damage done to kids who were homeschooled. . .up through the 8th … Continue reading

Angelina Jolie Packs Heat in her Own House

With the size of her new home (which is about as big as a small country) and the number of little ones she has to protect I suppose Angelina Jolie presents a good argument as to why she feels the need to arm herself with guns. While others may feel that a home is not a place for loaded guns, especially with a gaggle of kiddies running around, Jolie maintains that her guns are necessary and she wouldn’t hesitate to use the weapons to protect her growing family. And that’s not all the actress, who is pregnant with twins, recently … Continue reading

Hot Celebrity Halloween Costumes

You’ve got your kids’ costumes ready, but what are you dressing up as this Halloween? Most adults turn to Tinseltown and the celebs who roam the famous streets of Hollywood for inspiration. Donald Trump’s infamous combover was once part of the hot Halloween scene, but not this year. According to a survey done by a leading marketing company, Halloween 2007 will be known as the Brangelina holiday. If you are attending a Halloween party expect to see plenty of couples donning spiky blond Brad Pitt-locks and plumping up their pouters Angelina Jolie style. The handsome duo ranks among the hottest … Continue reading

Read-alouds: The best and biggest benefit

In two previous posts, I extolled the benefits of reading aloud to my children. Clearly, we are book lovers, and we’ve seen many benefits of read-alouds from the time our children were very young, from instilling a love of language to increasing the kids’ confidence in their own ability to read aloud. But, as my girls have gotten older, I’ve seen another benefit of read-alouds, which adds a whole new dimension to our homeschooling and to our lives. Reading a great deal of literature to my children leads to the most amazing and delightful discussions. Rather than sending them off … Continue reading
