Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines Sued

The lead singer for the Dixie Chicks, Natalie Maines, is being sued by Terry Hobbs. Now, the name Terry Hobbs might not be familiar to you, but if I were to say the stepfather of Steven Branch, one of the victims of the West Memphis Three murders, you might remember his name. The West Memphis Three was a horrific murder case that happened just across the Mississippi River in 1993 when I lived in Memphis, Tennessee. Three eight year old boys (Steven Branch, Christopher Byers, and Michael Moore) were found dead in a Robin Hood Hills drainage canal. I won’t … Continue reading

Peter Jackson Wants Justice for the West Memphis Three

I blogged about Damiel Echols, Jessie Misskelley, and Jason Baldwin, known as the West Memphis Three, a little over a week ago in my Green Living category. I explained that this particular subject falls between pop culture and green living because celebrities have been involved trying to free these men but, it is also a case of social consciousness because a lot of people think they were railroaded into a conviction. Now, director Peter Jackson, known for the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the upcoming The Hobbit series, has come on board to try and bring true justice for … Continue reading

West Memphis Three Freed – Part 2

Yesterday, I was talking about the story of the West Memphis Three, three teens accused of murder in the early ’90s. Some thought they were unfairly convicted and the whole thing came to a head late last week in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Friday, it was announced that the West Memphis Three would go free, but there was a catch. They had to accept an Alford plea deal. Yeah, no one else had any idea what that was either, but apparently, the three had to plead “no contest,” conceding that the prosecutors probably had enough evidence to keep them in jail. But, … Continue reading

Johnny Depp Supports Release of West Memphis Three

I’ve blogged before about the West Memphis Three. This is the name given to those found guilty of a terrible crime that sticks out in my mind because it happened just across the Mississippi River from my native Memphis. In 1993, three young boys were brutally murdered in West Memphis, Ark. In 1994, three teenagers – Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley – were convicted of the murders. Baldwin and Misskelley received life sentences while Echols was sentenced to die. Since those convictions, there has been nothing but controversy about this case. Some say that it was a witch … Continue reading

Greatest Musical Feuds Ever – Part 2

Okay, there is no way I could list all the great musical feuds of the past. After all, all that music and all those egos are just too explosive. But, here are a few more of the great ones: Notorious B.I.G. vs. 2Pac Sadly, we all know how this one turned out. When Tupac was shot, all eyes turned to Biggie since the two had had an ongoing feud in which, among other things, Tupac claimed to have had intimate relations with Biggie’s wife. Tupac was killed on the Vegas strip in 1996, Biggie was killed outside the Petersen Automotive … Continue reading
