Director John Hughes Dies at 59

Director/writer John Hughes never won an Oscar. In fact, he never came close – he was never nominated for an Oscar. Or, a Golden Globe for that matter. Or much of anything. The only award I could find on the Internet Movie Database was the ShoWest Producer of the Year award in 1991. But, throw out some quotes like “Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?” or “No more yanky my wanky” and most people between the ages of 50 and 30 can tell you what movies those quotes came from and chances are they will spew out more quotes from John Hughes movies. … Continue reading

Is Macaulay Culkin Dying?

Is child star Macaulay Culkin dying? Well, if you believe the National Enquirer, he just may be. Culkin is best known as the cute child star from the Home Alone movie series. From an acting family, Culkin somewhat fell prey to things that happen to a lot of child stars. He started acting at age four and reached his peak at age 10 when he starred as Kevin McCallister in Home Alone. He appeared in the second movie in that series in 1992. As Michele mentioned in my last blog, the list of dead celebrities seems to get longer and longer each year. Here are more we lost in 2009: July 19 – Frank McCourt (78) McCourt, a Pulitzer Prize winner, was best known for his memoir Angela’s Ashes. He died of melanoma. July 23 – E. Lynn Harris (54) The African American author who specialized in writing about gay men had ten consecutive books on the New York Times Best Seller list.
