“Devilishly” Good Makeup Products

Think about it… these days, what kids movie doesn’t have a fast-food tie-in? Cross promotion is a hot commodity in the entertainment world. So, I suppose it was just a matter of time before movie makers wised up to the windfall that can follow a film that’s all about fashion. Such it the case with the just released movie, “The Devil Wears Prada.” The movie follows a naive young woman (played by Anne Hathaway) who comes to New York and scores a job as the assistant to a famous fashion magazine editor (played by two-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep). … Continue reading

Pop Culture Roundup – September 2, 2010

Her ex-girlfriend Lindsay Lohan may be out of jail and rehab, but Samantha Ronson is not having a great week. It appears that her bulldog Cadillac has killed a neighbor’s dog. A 911 call was made yesterday that a pit bull was attacking a small dog and its owner. Witnesses have said the dog was actually a bulldog, not a pit bull. The dog involved in the attack was reportedly a three pound Maltese named Tiger. Tiger was dead by the time police got to the scene. Its owner, an unidentified female, had minor injuries. Sources say Ronson was asleep … Continue reading

Celebs’ New Gigs—-Anne’s an Ambassador and Suri’s a Polar Bear?

Frankly, I am surprised that it took so long for a cosmetics company to hire Anne Hathaway. Even before she made a name for herself in “The Devil Wears Prada” I always thought she had one of the most beautiful faces in Hollywood. Her skin is flawless (at least it appears to be in the shots I’ve seen) and her smile is infectious. She just has a fresh look about her. Now it appears execs at Lancome are giving the actress the recognition she deserves. Following in the footsteps of the company’s past famous faces, Kate Winslet and Clive Owen, … Continue reading

Keep Your Pucker Perfect

Does your skin care routine include your lips? It should! Try these tricks for keeping your lips plump and healthy. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Try a glycerin-based lip balm to help your lips retain moisture. Use a lip balm with vitamin E or spread vitamin E oil onto your lips. The lips don’t secrete sebum like the rest of your skin, so they’ll need the extra dose. Don’t forget the sunscreen. Your lips can get burned just like the rest of you! Use a lip balm with SPF underneath your favorite lipstick, or look for … Continue reading

Fashion Don’t: Baggy Pants

I have written my share of fashion blogs over the past few months. I tend to limit the number of times I inject my own opinion about fashion trends simply because I feel what works for one person may not work for another. As I have mentioned before I am partial to khakis rather than super skinny jeans and prefer little to no makeup versus the Tammy Faye Bakker look (but, like I said to each his/her own). There is however a fashion trend I have not been silent about—super baggy pants. You know the ones wannabe rappers (yes, I’m … Continue reading

Throw Away Your Mascara Forever

Some women have been able to throw out their eyeliner and eyebrow pencils forever by undergoing “permanent make up surgery.” It is a type of cosmetic surgery that permanently tattoos make up on a person’s skin. If the idea of ditching your eyeliner intrigues you, you may be happy to know that there’s now a new procedure that will allow you to further lighten your makeup bag. It’s called eyelash extensions and it allows women to get rid of their mascara forever—without going under the knife. The eyelash extension procedure does not require surgery; rather it is done by salon … Continue reading

You Don’t Have To Be A Celebrity To Have Skin Like One

I’ve written about trendy beauty products in previous blogs, but this product is one I can see myself stocking up on. Fashion magazines are full of ads for beauty products that claim to revitalize your skin or minimize wrinkles, blah, blah, blah. What I need is help for the skin on my hands (and cheeks), which really take a beating this time of year. Each fall/early winter I convince myself that I can get away with not wearing gloves, only to pay for my mistake later with cracked and bleeding skin. Chances are you may have experienced the same type … Continue reading

Top 5 Fashion Trends—Would You Wear It?

Fashion Week continues in New York City and celebrities are out in full force showing their support for their favorite designers. Last night, Barbara Walters and U.S. Open champion Roger Federer made appearances at the Oscar de la Renta show. While Courtney Cox, Carmen Electra, and other Hollywood stars have traveled east to be a part of the fashion frenzy. But, what about us—the millions of stay-and-work-at-home-moms who just try to make it through the day without anyone noticing the jelly and cheetos fingerprint stains on our shirts? When it’s time to change out of your “uniform” what do you … Continue reading
