Celebrity Weddings---Just Hitched and Getting Hitched

Usher may have gotten cold feet, but it seems nothing was going stop Steve Martin from getting hitched this weekend. Not even the fact that his guests didn't know there was going to be a wedding.

It was no secret that Martin intended to marry his girlfriend Anne Stringfield, but it appears no one knew it was going to happen Saturday night. According to Martin's publicist, some 75 big name guests were not told that they would be witnessing Martin and Stringfield exchange vows when they were invited to the actor's home for a "party." The nuptials were a surprise to most in attendance, including Martin's friends Tom Hanks, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Carl Reiner and Ricky Jay.

I get the feeling at least one (or two) of Martin's famous pals may have been in on the surprise, including former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey. He reportedly presided over Saturday's ceremony. In addition, reports say "Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels served as Martin's best man.

According to Martin's rep, the comedic actor delivered his vows sporting an Inspector Clouseau mustache he let grow in for his appearance in the upcoming sequel to 2006's "Pink Panther" remake.

This is Martin's second marriage. The 61-year-old actor was previously married to actress Victoria Tennant, whom he divorced in 1994 after about 8 years together. It was, however, the first marriage for Stringfield, a 35-year-old writer and former staff member of The New Yorker magazine.

While Martin was surprising his guests with a wedding in his backyard, the Queen of England was sharing some wedding news of her own.

Yesterday, Queen Elizabeth II announced that her grandson Peter Phillips is engaged to his girlfriend, Canadian businesswoman Autumn Kelly.

Phillips is the son of Queen Elizabeth II's daughter Princess Anne and her ex-husband Mark Phillips. According to royal watchers, 29-year-old Phillips met Kelly at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal in 2003. For all intents and purposes, Phillips is somewhat of a commoner. He is 10th in line to the throne but holds no royal title and carries out no official royal duties (he works for the Royal Bank of Scotland), though I'm sure the wedding will be a royal affair nonetheless--especially if his two handsome cousins attend.

Wonder if William will be next?
