Celebrity Updates: The New 90210 and Why London is Getting "Sex" Firstby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 29 Apr 2008 10:55 PM THE NEW 90210 Things are moving right along for the CW's new 90210 spin-off. You can forget about the rumor that Hilary Duff will play the show's main character. Today producers announced they gave the role of Annie Mills to Shenae Grimes - who plays former good girl Darcy Edwards on Degrassi: The Next Generation. Grimes will play the daughter of the principal of Beverly Hills High. She joins former Full House star Lori Loughlin, who will be playing Annie's mom, Celia Mills. Actor Dustin Milligan and Nip/Tuck's AnnaLynne McCord have also signed on to the project. In addition, Dirt star Ryan Eggold has reportedly agreed to play Ryan, a teacher who works at Beverly Hills High. According to TV Guide, the show follows the Mills family as they move from Kansas to the world's most famous zip code to be closer to Annie's grandmother Tabitha (played by Arrested Development's Jessica Walter), a former film star with a drinking problem. No word on which members of the original 90210 cast will be joining the new show. WHY LONDON IS GETTING "SEX" FIRST File this one under "Things That Make You Go Hmmm..." Producers of the highly anticipated Sex and the City: The Movie just announced that the flick that spotlights some of the Big Apple's most famous sites will not be premiering any where near New York. Rather, the film is set to open across the Atlantic, in London, on May 12th. According to news reports, for some strange reason New York will not get a look at the picture until two weeks later. What? Who in the world decides to open a movie, which has its roots in New York (heck, the city is even home to guided tours that take paying visitors to the sites made famous on the former HBO series), in a place that has no geographic significance to the film? A spokesman for Sex's studio, New Line, tried to play down the London launch by saying that it would "be much smaller" and that the whole cast "won't even be there." But according to New York newspapers, the only cast members not making the trip will be Chris Noth (who plays Mr. Big) and Jennifer Hudson (who plays Carrie Bradshaw's assistant). Meanwhile, the four leading actresses will be at the Leicester Square premiere. As for the New York premiere of the movie, that will take place May 27, at Radio City Music Hall, followed by a reception at the Museum of Modern Art, which will reportedly benefit Caroline Kennedy's Fund for Public Schools charity.
