Celebrity Fashion: Would You Wear It?

I love flipping through fashion magazines. I flip, because frankly, there are very few items on the pages that I would actually wear. I think the models look great, but most of the featured pieces are either way out of my price range or I risk being disowned by my family if I were to ever attempt to make the look my own. I am more GAP than Giorgio Armani, more J. Crew than Jean Paul Gaultier, more Old Navy than Oscar de la Renta.

But, celebrities are a whole different story. If someone like Paris Hilton shows up to a party wearing a scarf tied around her arm instead of her neck she's dubbed a trendsetter. (Of course, when I see someone wearing a scarf around her arm I wonder if she is wounded.) Hollywood stars are always looking to stand out in a crowd and they often rely on their outfits to help them do so.

Here are some of the latest fashion "trends" (as dubbed by various magazines). Look them over and ask yourself: "Would I wear it?"

Leopard Print Shoes

Nicole Richie, Beyoncé, and Christina Aguilera have recently made the "scene" wearing these spotted heels. I am not real big on animal print anything, but I will admit that I did own a pair of cheetah flats that were covered with black and yellow spots... in the 5th grade. I think I begged my mother to buy them for me. I still don't know what I was thinking. Luckily, it was a phase I grew out of and vowed never to fall victim to again. I have since sworn off all things spotted or striped.

Cropped Vests

They are the short and figure clinging version of a traditional man's vest. Stars including Lucy Liu and Anne Hathaway pair them with white oxford shirts that show a bit of cleavage. I remember when vests were popular back in the '80s; I used to own a few. Of course, they weren't fitted and I never bared my cleavage.

Pedal Pushers

Recently, Beyoncé, Naomi Watts and Lindsay Lohan have all been photographed wearing these knee-length shorts. But in my opinion, none of them looked very good in them. (Perhaps, because they were cut off versions of those ill fitting skinny jeans.) I have seen stars like Sheryl Crow and Halle Berry wearing khaki versions, which didn't make their legs look like sausages and did think, "I would wear that."

Plaid

Jennifer Aniston, Hilary Duff, and Tori Spelling have recently been seen around L.A. wearing plaid skirts and plaid pants. I could see wearing the skirt if it didn't resemble a kilt, but the pants seem a bit too much for me, especially since patterns accentuate problem areas.

Ankle Boots

This is the one trend I think is extremely hard to pull off. Mischa Barton and Sienna Miller have paired these boots with mini dresses and even with their stick thin frames the boot made their calves look chunky. I feel the boots are an eye sore, especially when paired with a mini dress; they seem to cut the leg off at the ankle and overall the look is not very flattering.
