Celebrity Breakdowns Part 1

While we are all a bit astonished by Britney’s very public breakdown, you must remember that breakdowns are nothing new to celebrities. I am sure we all have breakdowns of some type when stress gets to us, but celebrities are constantly under watch, so their breakdowns are usually preserved for posterity. Here are a few meltdowns you may have forgotten about in the wake of Britney’s: Robert Downey Jr. Robert seems to be well on the road to recovery now, but there was a time when he seemed like a hopeless cause. In 1996, he was arrested for wandering into … Continue reading

Charlie Sheen Enters Rehab

My family loves “Two and a Half Men,” as do millions of Americans, but I always point out that Charlie Sheen gets paid almost $2 million an episode for playing Charlie Sheen. And the thing is, he can get away with things no other celebrity can and still have the public loves him because they love the scoundrel he plays on “Two and a Half Men” so much. Take for example the past trouble Charlie has been in. Fifteen years ago, Charlie was named as one of the clients of infamous Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss. He dated porn stars in … Continue reading

Bea Arthur Dead at 86

I was sad today to read that Bea Arthur died. I know many of those reading this blog will remember her as Dorothy Zbornak from “The Golden Girls.” Dorothy was a great character – my favorite on the show – but when I read of Bea’s death, I actually thought of another of her television characters – Maude. “Maude” first aired on CBS in September 1972, but the character had earlier appeared in “All in the Family” as Edith’s cousin. If ever anyone could take on Archie Bunker, it was Maude. Maude was a modern woman in a time when … Continue reading

Terrence Howard Stunned by Snub

Terrence Howard is a talented actor who has appeared in such films as Ray, Crash, Four Brothers, and Hustle & Flow, for which he received both Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations. His star remains on the rise after playing an important part in this summer’s blockbuster Iron Man. (This image or file is a work of a U.S. Air Force Airman or employee, taken or made during the course of the person’s official duties and therefore is in the public domain) So, you would think that he would be respected enough by the powers that be to get his … Continue reading

Tom Cruise Loves… Tom Cruise

If you want something done right you should do it yourself. It’s a philosophy Tom Cruise appears to subscribe to. The movie star just launched a new website devoted to… well, himself. I know what you’re thinking: There are thousands of narcissistic entertainers in Hollywood and Cruise surely is not the first to create a website for fans. You’re right, but Cruise’s new entry on the World Wide Web is of particular interest because he more than just about any celebrity has been the subject of numerous YouTube-able moments in the past couple of years. Do you realize how many … Continue reading

Iron Man Does Well at the Box Office

Let me start this blog by saying that I am not a big fan of superheroes. Yes, I went and saw several of the Superman, Batman, and Spiderman movies, but it was never without a date. My husband made me sit through Van Helsing and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and they were okay. I will watch a superhero movie once without much fuss, but don’t expect me to ever see it again. It has just never been my thing and at the age I am now, I don’t expect that to ever change. However, I am now convinced the … Continue reading

They’re Baaack: Cher and Tina Turner

Ah, Cher and Tina Turner…does it get any more classic that that? These two ladies could sing and entertain circles around most performers today. And, what careers they have had! If the Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohans of the world want to know how to thrive and survive in the show business world, they could definitely take a few cues from these ladies. Both singers are now in their sixties (Cher is 61 and Tina is an amazing 68). Both have been taking it easy later – after all, after momentous careers, they both deserve it. But, this week, both … Continue reading

Tom Cruising Back to Oprah’s Couch

Oprah Winfrey’s staff has had nearly three years to get the shoe prints off the expensive couch Tom Cruise jumped on while expressing his affections for Katie Holmes. Back then the two had just begun dating. Now Cruise and Holmes are married and the parents to 2-year-old daughter Suri. And you can expect to hear all about the Cruise clan when Tom returns to “The Oprah Winfrey Show” next week. Though, luckily for cleaning crews they won’t need to work overtime to stain guard the show’s furniture since producers say the first of the two-part interview was taped at the … Continue reading

Britney Spears’ Obit is Already Written

In the wake of the recent, sudden and tragic deaths of young actors Brad Renfro and Heath Ledger much is being made of the obituary that The Associated Press has prepared for Britney Spears. I’m sure you have noticed that whenever a famous person dies after living a long and distinguished life, major news organizations almost instantaneously come out with detailed obituaries highlighting all aspects of their lives. What you might not know is that many of those stories are produced well in advance of a star’s passing. This was not the case in the deaths of Brad Renfro and … Continue reading
