Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas to Split?

Actors Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas met while working on the film Too Much in 1995. It may have been love at first sight, but at the time, both were married to other people. Griffith married actor Don Johnson at the young age of 19 after the two had been dating for five years. Let me do the math for you – she was 14 when she started dating 22-year-old Johnson. That marriage only lasted six months and in September 1981, Griffith married actor Steven Bauer. That reportedly drug-fueled marriage lasted two year and in 1989, Griffith and Johnson gave … Continue reading

Joan Rivers Roasts and Ryan O’Neal Regrets

Roasts are supposed to be harsh words from good friends that are meant in good humor and no one should know that any better than Joan Rivers. Joan found herself as the roastee at the latest installment of the Comedy Central Roast. The show will air on August 9th at 10:00 p.m. on Comedy Central and the emcee is none other than D-List celebrity Kathy Griffin. Joan took it all in good stride, promising that the show would be great. She said, “I was in shock at what they said” and added, “They call me evil, mean, and [a] plastic … Continue reading

Returning to the Airwaves: Joan and Genie

She’s baaaack! If would rather undergo root canal than hear Joan Rivers’ cackle then you might not want to tune into the upcoming season of “The Celebrity Apprentice.” The 75-year-old comedienne says she has signed up to become real estate mogul Donald Trump’s next slackee. Though, producers for the NBC primetime show say they cannot confirm Rivers’ appearance until the show’s airdate gets closer. The reality TV series’ new season is set to be taped this fall and is scheduled to air next January. According to Rivers, Trump asked her to appear on last season’s show, but scheduling conflicts prevented … Continue reading

Phyllis Diller Dead at 95

The world lost a truly iconic comedian yesterday. Phyllis Diller died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles yesterday at the age of 95. (This file is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0) Diller was a pioneer for women comedians. She set the way for all of today’s female comedians, even Joan Rivers, who Diller called her protege. Rivers paid homage to Diller yesterday saying that Diller was the first to compete with male comedians and taught her something important – to be “very simple.” Much of Diller’s comedy centered on home life – something many … Continue reading

More on Elizabeth Taylor

Earlier this week, we lost a true legend – Elizabeth Taylor. I blogged briefly about her star as a child star then her transition to adult roles. I had just touched on her first four marriages when I mentioned Eddie Fisher. Oh, the Eddie Fisher thing caused quite a scandal. Fisher was good friends with Todd and when the young producer died in a plane crash, he offered consolation to Taylor, the young widow. Maybe too much consolation considering Eddie was married to Debbie Reynolds at the time. Although it was a sticky situation at the time, Reynolds and Taylor … Continue reading

Dom DeLuise Dies

He was the comedian whose presence couldn’t be missed. But today, Dom DeLuise, the larger than life funnyman, who rose to fame in the ’70s and ’80s for his roles in “Blazing Saddles,” “Cannonball Run” and “Spaceballs,” is being missed by millions. According to reports, the actor died late Monday night in a L.A. hospital. He was 75. The star reportedly died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his immediate family, including his wife of nearly 45 years, actress Carol Arthur. DeLuise, who consistently wrote of his large appetite and rotund figure, got his big break in the 1960s as … Continue reading

Paul Newman Dead at 83

I was scanning Yahoo Entertainment news this morning, when I saw a small heading at the bottom that said “Legendary Actor Paul Newman Dies at Age 83.” I had already clicked on another link, then it hit me what I had actually read. I went back and sure enough, way down at the bottom of the page was this heading! I checked CNN, Fox News, USA Today, desperately looking for another confirmation, especially after my premature obituaries blog. But, there was nothing there. Paul Newman at a political rally for Eugene McCarthy in the parking lot of Kohl’s in Menominee … Continue reading

Glen Campbell Sings Green Day

That’s right, you read the blog titled correctly, country superstar Glen Campbell is taking on contemporary music and that includes Green Day. It’s not that he is the first country star to try this. Willie Nelson has recorded Fleetwood Mac and Grateful Dead songs in the past. Even legend Johnny Cash began dabbling in different genres of music before his death when he recorded the Nine Inch Nails’ song “Hurt.” And, although not country, who can forget Pat Boone’s cover of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” Tom Jones doing Prince’s “Kiss,” or Paul Anka singing Billy Idol’s “Eyes Without a Face.” In … Continue reading

“9 to 5” to Appear on Broadway

I love the movie 9 to 5. I remember going to see it at the theater with my parents when it opened in 1980. We loved it so much that we scooped up the grandmothers and went to see it again. In case you never saw it, 9 to 5 was about three women (Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin) who were struggling with a 9 to 5 job that came with a chauvinist, self-centered boss who intended to keep the in their place. Now, 9 to 5 is going to be a Broadway show. The producers announced that … Continue reading

Priscilla Presley Victimized by Dr. Jiffy Lube

While Elvis’ former wife was concentrating on her footwork on the set of “Dancing with the Stars” her rep was busy responding to questions about Priscilla Presley’s face. The actress, who is trying to tango her way to the finals on the current season of the popular ABC dance show, has recently been named as one of the victims in a botched cosmetic procedure case. The man behind the mess is Daniel Serrano a.k.a. Dr. Jiffy Lube. He earned his notorious nickname for injecting industrial-grade silicone used to lubricate auto parts into women’s faces—–including Presley’s. And that’s only half the … Continue reading
