Britney Spears--Why is She a Free Woman?

As you likely know by now derailed pop princess Britney Spears was granted an early release from UCLA Medical Center's psych ward last week because a court representative found "no just cause" for the hold.

"No just cause?!" Apparently, the court representative doesn't watch the news, live in Los Angeles, or read this blog.

In all seriousness Spears' early release should be a lesson to anyone who thinks that a person should be institutionalized based solely on what he or she might consider "irrational" behavior. Because according to mental health experts, getting a patient to be held involuntarily on a 14-day hold is extremely difficult.

In Britney's case, her parents, as well as her attending psychiatrist, wanted the singer to remain hospitalized. However, the decision was overridden by a court representative--also known as a "hearing referee." The rep for the court, who is typically an attorney, interviews patients under 14-day holds to determine if there's "just cause" for the detainment.

According to sources close to Spears' case, the court rep simply overrode Brit's doctor's recommendation and the mother of two young sons was allowed to rejoin the free world late last week after spending nearly a week in the hospital.

Since then Spears' business manager has been given the boot (courtesy of Daddy Spears who remains as temporary conservator of Brit's estate) and her divorce attorney Sorrell Trope has once again asked the court for permission to drop her as a client. A hearing will be held on the matter next month.

On a lighter note Spears is reportedly sporting some new locks.

(Yeah, never mind about her mental health needs let's discuss something more important...)

According to new reports, Ms. Meltdown recently got a house call from a hairdresser.

"Britney needed some help with her extensions and wanted to talk about a new color," Kim Vo, celebrity colorist and E! commentator told reporters.

Vo arrived at Brit's Beverly Hills home on Thursday afternoon -- the day after Fed-Ex's ex was sprung from her hospital room - and worked on the troubled pop tart for four hours.

F.Y.I. Brit's scalp and hair are reportedly in great shape. Vo says the former Mouseketeer, who once shaved off her own hair, is now sporting new dark brown locks with a caramel color.

Well, now, one hardly knows what to say. She's insane, is a danger to herself and her children, but she has great hair! This is what her spokesperson chooses to focus on!

Why did they release her, indeed?

I guess in some cases, you can't even keep crazy people locked up. I know there was always people walking the streets of Memphis that looked homeless, talked to themselves, talked to God, talked to no one - obviously not all there, but for some reason, they weren't locked up.

I mean good grief, if Amy Winehouse seems to be getting it together, you'd think someone would be able to help Britney get the help she needs.

Frankly, I don't think her hair looks any different now than it did before. Thanks for the comments!
