Couple Visits Disneyland Every Day in 2012

At the end of 2012 I came across an interesting post on the official Disney Parks blog: a couple visited Disneyland every single day in 2012.  On December 31, Jeff Reitz and Tonya Mickesh received special gifts personally from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs.  It was a typical fancy Disney ceremony: as the two made their way down Main Street, Staggs was waiting for them to present their honors in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Their honors included being made honorary citizens of Disneyland, and a stay in the Disneyland Dream Suite, a luxury apartment off the … Continue reading

Lifestyle Prenup Agreements

If you want to financially protect yourself after getting married, you may decide that a prenuptial agreement is the way to go. I’m not here to say one way or another whether this is something you should or shouldn’t do. Each couple has to make this decision based on their unique circumstances. But I do have a bit of a problem with non-financial prenups. These are the ones based on surface issues, ones that really don’t have a place in a committed marriage. I recently heard a story about a man who wanted his future wife to sign a prenuptial … Continue reading

This Week in Hollywood Couples

Another week, more news on Hollywood couples. This week, there were no breakups –at least none of which I can remember. This week, two-time mom Reese Witherspoon gave birth to her third child, a son named Tennessee James. Tennessee or James – whatever they are going to call him – is the first child for Witherspoon and second husband, Jim Toth. A statement was released that read in part, “Both mom and baby are healthy and the entire family is thrilled.” Witherspoon’s older two children are from her first marriage to actor Ryan Phillippe. Witherspoon and Toth, a talent agent, … Continue reading

What Is Your 8 Month Old Up to?

My little guy turned eight months old just a week ago. I am amazed at how quickly the time is flying. I remember writing my post about him turning 6-months old, and that was two months ago! We have been experiencing some changes around here with a baby that loves to crawl and is on the go constantly. I told a friend that once they learn to crawl, I would almost rather them be able to walk because they are mobile anyway, but they are dying to be able to walk. Especially when babies have older siblings to watch run … Continue reading

Vacation Prices are Up: How to Save

Did you know that it will cost you almost 14 percent more to fly this year? Air travel, car travel and many other vacation expenses will cost you a lot more today versus last year. I’ll explain why there have been such large increases and how you can still save despite the inflation. Bankrate recently took a look at the consumer price index and also pulled out a few numbers of their own to compare the actual costs of common summer favorites, such as travel. They report that airfare is 13.8 percent due to airlines grounding planes instead of trying … Continue reading

Marriage Break Up – No-one is Immune

None of us is immune. How often do we hear of marriages breaking up, sometimes after a short time but other times after many years together? I was saddened recently to read of the marriage break up of a minister I admired. His sermons were biblical, thoughtful and practical. Sadly, it seems he spent so much time on church matters that his own marriage suffered. As Mary Ann pointed out – if people don’t get what they want from a marriage they tend to seek it elsewhere. This attitude of society to seeking fulfillment outside the marriage shows up in … Continue reading

Online Mental Health Support Groups: Are They Useful?

These days pretty much every condition known to man has an online support group. There is really no better support than talking to people who understand and live your condition, whether it be diabetes, stroke or some form of mental illness. There are many online support groups for a range of mental disorders including depression, the anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and panic disorder to name a few. While the concept of joining a group such as these is an excellent one, again, as with selecting a therapist, one needs to be a bit choosy. Online mental health groups can provide daily … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for July 21-27

Perhaps you were too occupied with summertime fun to do much web surfing last week. If so, here’s your Week in Review, which details all the articles Lyn and I covered while you were busy having fun. Monday, July 21 I pondered the curious case of sister-wives. (Also sometimes known as plural wives.) Tuesday, July 22 Did he forget to do the dishes? If so, Lyn suggests giving him a break and urges you to remember he is only human after all. I wrote about the older couple at church who caught Wayne and I’s eye. A marriage with benefits … Continue reading
