Brad Pitt vs. Diaper Rash

In the October issue of Esquire Magazine, Brad Pitt discusses a myriad of personal issues. Of his upcoming nuptials to Angelina Jolie, Pitt says: "Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able." On the issue of being a "laid back" parent, Pitt explains: "I try not to stifle them in any way. If it's not hurting anyone, I want them to be able to explore." Finally, Pitt opens up on a topic perhaps all parents can relate to: "Shiloh's got horrible diaper rash, poor thing. Same with Zahara when we picked her up in Ethiopia. ... We've tried everything - every cream, every salve, every natural product. We haven't found the magic ointment. Yet."

Ordinary comments that have proven to be headliner grabbers and subsequently opened the floodgates on diaper rash advice from readers around the world. When one entertainment magazine asked readers for advice for Pitt and infant Shiloh they responded in typical Pitt-mania fashion. PEOPLE Magazine announced that in less than five hours it have received diaper rash remedies from more than 900 people. The remedies ranged from cornstarch to drying baby Shiloh's bottom with a hairdryer ("on a very, very low setting"). But according to the magazine, the one product that hundreds of diaper rash "experts" overwhelmingly recommended was Boudreaux's Butt Paste.

For those of you unfamiliar with the product, Boudreaux's Butt Paste is a mixture of zinc oxide, castor oil, mineral oil and Peruvian balsam. It was invented by Louisiana pharmacist George Boudreaux in the late '70s - and while it was once sold exclusively in small pharmacies it is now available nationwide at stores including Wal-Mart and Walgreen's.

While Pitt may not be familiar with the "miracle rub," according to Boudreaux, the ointment has been a hit with many celebrities-young and old. Popular athletes including seven time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, basketball great Shaquille O'Neal and NFL quarterback Peyton Manning use it to prevent chafing. And, Boudreaux says he recently sent a case of the famous butt paste to Donald Trump's newest son, Barron.

That is so funny, Michele! I was thinking when I read his comment about the diaper rash, "Gee, have they ever tried Butt Paste? I'm sure they can afford it!" We LOVE it! Our pediatrician recommended it when our daughter was getting them frequently and we have not used anything else since.

LOL! My first thought was - had they considered not letting their children lounge in wet diapers? I once knew a man who truly believed that a diaper should continue to be worn until it leaks. (Not a very healthy idea.) Maybe the Pitt-Jolie cure would be a more attentive nanny. Just a thought.

On the rare occassions when my son had diaper rash, I used Lansinoh (Lanolin generally recommended for nursing mothers). A thin layer of Lansinoh would clear up anything within hours.

We love Butt Paste! I now add it to my gifts for baby showers. It worked wonders on our youngest sons diaper rash.

Jaime, Lisa, Kaye--thanks for your comments--who knew butt paste could unite social classes. I am so not in the same league as the Jolie-Pitt's, but they could take a lead from everyone who swears by butt paste :)
