The Art of Recycling Halloween Costume Ideas

(The purr-fect costume??) You are looking at my daughter’s darling Halloween cat costume. The one she swears she’ll never wear again. She wore the cute and cuddly getup a couple of years ago during her All Hallows’ Eve candy collecting adventures, but don’t look for her to ever go trick-or-treating again dressed as a fluffy feline because “only little kids dress up as cats.” P.S. She’s eight. I spent the better half of last night explaining to her that she most certainly could dress-up as a cat again if she desired. We’d just tailor the outfit to make it look … Continue reading

Ready to have some fun without the frightful prices that Halloween can bring? Believe it or not, it isn’t too early to thinking of ways to save on those Halloween costumes. With holidays seeming to creep up earlier and earlier these days, you might find that last minute waiting means that you just might pay full price to outfit your gang in Halloween costumes. Now that is scary! Here are some ways to save (hint: you don’t have to be a sewing Goddess, either) Use Themed Clothing This time of year, there are plenty of Halloween themed t-shirts and sweat … Continue reading

Keep Your Pet Safe This Halloween

Halloween can be dangerous for your pets. You may be well aware of the things that could pose a danger to your children on Halloween night. Keep in mind that there is potential for your pets to become injured or anxious on Halloween, too. You might be able to avoid an expensive trip to the vet. Many pet owners have pet insurance. You might think of this as a type of health insurance for pets. It covers the cost of certain types of preventative care that your pet needs. It can also decrease the out of pocket costs that a … Continue reading

Spice Up Your Halloween Layouts

Despite the miles in between Happy, happy Halloween! Not exactly Shakespeare, but it ties in well with my “Ghouls Just Want to Have Fun” page title. I’m rushing to put together a double page Halloween layout for my great aunt’s 90th birthday scrapbook. I’m in charge of creating half of the holiday-themed pages, while my sister-in-law has to come up with designs for the remaining holidays and major occasions, such my birthdays and family reunions. Right now I am working on Halloween. The layout has to include all of the youngest members of the family, as well as photos from … Continue reading

Quotes for Your Halloween Scrapbook Page

As you get your little goblins, ghouls, princesses, cheerleaders, puppies, and pirates ready for this Halloween don’t forget the camera! This is one night you will want for the scrapbook. Here are some great quotes for this time theme: “Too cute to spook, but not to sweet to trick or treat”! A grandmother pretends she doesn’t know who you are on Halloween. A Renaissance faire is just an excuse to wear funny clothing and run amok. A spooking we will go! A Spooky Good Time At first cock-crow the ghosts must go Back to their quiet graves below. ~Theod… Double, … Continue reading

Create a Halloween Table

Are you looking forward to some spooky meals in the near future? Maybe you’re planning a Halloween party for kids or their adults. If you want to create a spooky-looking table, here are a few ideas. Create a scene. Get an orange or black tablecloth and get the kids to stamp it with Halloween pumpkins or black cats. If you’re feeling crafty, glue or appliqué these images onto the tablecloth. Do the same with placemats and napkins. Add a spider or a black cat to the top of the napkin ring. Make pumpkins or haunted houses into a Halloween centerpiece. … Continue reading

Make an Entrance This Halloween

This Halloween, we’re making an entrance. Not with our costumes, that is for sure. I am not all that proficient at sewing, and I must confess that we just bought my daughter’s costume secondhand at a thrift store. It is homemade from some home, though. Guilt, guilt. No, I like decorating our house instead. Kids grow and you need to make them costumes every year – the nerve! Houses, well, sometimes they grow, but generally they stay the same approximate dimensions. We have the usual skeletons and mini-pumpkins in the trees and spiders and black cats on the window. Gradually, … Continue reading

Kid-Friendly Halloween Decorations Using Acorn Squash

My daughter’s cooking class teacher provided the directions to this next kid-friendly Halloween craft. In fact, she tailored an entire lesson around it. She had the kids decorate acorn squash to look like black cats and then they used the leftovers to make a yummy (and healthy) acorn squash veggie dip. The cooking class is geared towards kids ages 3-5 so keep that in mind when you are getting your children involved. The students did such an incredible job on their acorn squash cats it’s hard to believe that the project only requires a few short steps. All you need … Continue reading

More Halloween Fun At Disneyland

In my last blog I told you that Disney’s HalloweenTime is returning to the Disneyland Resort this fall. Tickets for the big event go on sale next week. Expect some changes to the festivities this year. According to Disney officials, the park will be filled with even more seasonal decorations and will feature additional not-so-spooky activities for younger children. In addition to the 12-foot tall Mickey Mouse jack-o’-lantern, Disney execs say the Central Plaza of Disneyland, near Sleeping Beauty Castle, will also be specially decorated with Disney character-inspired jack-o’-lanterns surrounding the famous “Partners” statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse. … Continue reading

The Monster Bash – A Halloween Wedding

Good morning and Happy Halloween. It occurred to me, rather startlingly this morning, that we made it all the way through October without discussing a possible Halloween wedding theme. So, aiming for the better late than never solution, let’s kick off our Halloween morning with a little Halloween wedding planning and suggestions that may come into use for you next Halloween. Nothing Ordinary About a Halloween Wedding The great thing about a Halloween wedding is that you can toss out all the traditional ideas at your whim. You can theme your wedding in any way that involves wearing a costume, … Continue reading
