Is it a "Beverly Hills 90210" baby bonanza? Just a few days after her fellow "90210" co-star Jennie Garth gave birth to a girl, Tori Spelling has announced that she is just months away from being a mom herself.

According to PEOPLE magazine, Spelling is 14 weeks pregnant with her first child. The magazine quotes sources close to the couple, as saying that Spelling and her actor husband Dean McDermott are "excited and happy" about the news. But, the fact is, I can't help but think that the news is also slightly bittersweet. After all, if you have been following Spelling's life recently you know that the past couple of years have been tainted with unpleasant (to put it mildly) moments.

It all started in 2005 when the 33-year-old actress met McDermott in Canada while filming a TV movie. The two became smitten with each other, but both were married at the time--she to actor-writer Charlie Shanian (at the time they were newlyweds), he to Toronto TV personality Mary Jo Eustace. Both Spelling and McDermott divorced their respective spouses and then wed in Fiji in May of this year. McDermott told PEOPLE at the time. "We're soul mates." On their nine-day honeymoon in Fiji, McDermott told entertainment magazines: "We're going to make a baby."

But, before they could say if they made good on their plans, tragedy struck the Spelling family when patriarch, famed TV producer, and Tori's beloved father, Aaron died. Rumors swirled around Hollywood saying that a rift between Tori and her mother, Candy also put a strain on her relationship with her dad. Things didn't seem to have gotten any better by the time the Emmy Awards rolled around. The show did a tribute to the celebrated TV producer, but in an awkward moment cameras showed that mother and daughter apparently refused to bury the hatchet for the night. A two shot showed Tori and her husband sitting on one side of the auditorium and her mother and brother on the other.

This will be Spelling's first child; McDermott has an 8-year-old son, Jack, and a 1-year-old adopted daughter with Eustace. I don't doubt that Spelling is thrilled to be pregnant, but again, I can't help but think the moment is bittersweet... knowing her father will never get to see his first grandchild, and that unless some miracle-of-sorts takes place with her mother, this new baby will likely go through life without the presence of a maternal grandmother.
