Tristi’s Favorite Christmas Movies

It was Thanksgiving yesterday, and that means Christmas movies! I always kickstart my holiday season on Thanksgiving night by watching a Christmas movie, and at least once a week until the Big Day arrives, I watch another. Christmas movies are a wonderful way to bring the joy of the season into our homes. In no particular order, here are the films I watch every year, without fail. 1. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. The Herdsmans are the worst behaved kids in the whole town. When they catch word that the local church serves refreshments, they start attending, and they even … Continue reading

Bing Crosby’s New Landmark

If you are looking for another reason to visit beautiful Spokane, Washington now you have one. In less than 24 hours one of the most popular entertainers of the 20th Century (and the most famous person to ever grow up in Spokane), Bing Crosby will finally have a city landmark dedicated to him. According to city officials, the former Met Theater in downtown Spokane, where Crosby performed as a young man, will be renamed the “Bing Crosby Theater” at a public ceremony on Friday. The event dubbed: “Wing Ding for Bing” was the brainchild of a local historian and journalism … Continue reading

When You Love Someone -Part 2

I’m back, continuing to tell you about our together day. While Mick and I were listening to the radio yesterday in the early evening, a caller rang in to pass on her Christmas message. She wanted to say Merry Christmas to her husband and said she ‘after 43 years married she loved him exactly as she did when she first met him.’ Later a man rang in. He’d been engaged 13 years. No, that’s not mistyped -13 years before he married his obviously patient woman. They’ve now been married 30 years. Then later a woman rang to say Merry Christmas … Continue reading

Anything Goes (1956)

In an unlikely pairing of actors, “Anything Goes” stars the sophisticated Bing Crosby and the comedic Donald O’Connor. Bing is Bill Benson, a Broadway sensation who has been around the block a couple of times. Donald is Ted Adams, a television star with scads of adoring teenage fans. When Bill needs a co-star for a new show, it seems that Ted is a good candidate for the role. But there’s a problem. They both think they’re the star, and they both think that they are in charge of finding an actress to play the leading lady. While seeing a show … Continue reading

Radio Stations Temporarily Change Format

I do not know if you have experienced this or not, but here in Jacksonville, North Carolina, we have had two stations that have gone from their normal format to 24 hour Christmas music through the holidays. It seems to be a growing trend! In fact, there are approximately 399 stations in the U.S. that have temporarily changed their formats and are playing Christmas music constantly. Portland, Oregon has two stations, but some cities – I am assuming cities like New York or Los Angeles – have as many as five stations doing this. Most stations begin their “new” broadcasting … Continue reading
