Mom Sues Girl Scouts Over Disbanding Daughter’s Troop

A mother in Illinois is suing the Girl Scouts after they disbanded her daughter’s troop. The reason for the disbanding was because her daughter is deaf, and the Girl Scouts didn’t want to provide her with an interpreter anymore. A Leader felt the costs of the interpreter was restricting what the other girls in the troop could do. Edie Runnion is a mother who lives in Illinois. Her daughter, Megan, has been deaf since birth. She joined the Girl Scouts as a “Daisy” when she was in Kindergarten. Now, years later, Megan is 12 and her Girl Scout troop has … Continue reading

Owl About Our Trip To The Raptor Center

For some reason, I have been more into finding interesting places to go with the kids during the past few weeks. We have plenty of fun at home, but Dylan always enjoys new experiences and so do I. As an added bonus, Blake seems to enjoy new experiences too. He is usually either watching whatever we are doing intently or sleeping soundly, all from the front carrier that I wear him in. Today, our big adventure was visiting a local raptor center to see the birds of prey and spend some time walking on different trails than the ones that … Continue reading

This is just one of the ways that Jack’s Helping Hand can offer assistance to parents of kids who have special needs. Charlie Sheen Enters Rehab

My family loves “Two and a Half Men,” as do millions of Americans, but I always point out that Charlie Sheen gets paid almost $2 million an episode for playing Charlie Sheen. And the thing is, he can get away with things no other celebrity can and still have the public loves him because they love the scoundrel he plays on “Two and a Half Men” so much. Take for example the past trouble Charlie has been in. Fifteen years ago, Charlie was named as one of the clients of infamous Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss. He dated porn stars in … Continue reading

Renowned Child Psychiatrist Talks About Teens (and Parents) Texting

I recently received an invitation to interview renowned child psychiatrist Dr. Charles Sophy who is the Medical Director for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. Dr. Sophy has also made feature appearances on television’s “Celebrity Rehab.” After submitting my questions about teens and texting I received a video response. It enlightened me to a few things about teens and texting that I had not really thought about before. The first thing that really hit me was how statistics show that half of parents are texting while driving. My first thought was, “How could parents do that?” … Continue reading

Questions to Ask About Surgery

If your doctor suggests surgery, you may feel a little overwhelmed, or a little scared. But surgery may not be your only option! Here are some things to consider, and some questions to ask. 1. Get a second opinion. Two different doctors may have two different opinions on how to treat your disease or injury. 2. Do some research. Don’t immediately say yes or no to whatever your doctor proposes. Get your diagnosis and find out more. You may decide that surgery is the best choice, or you may decide to pursue another course. Contact your insurance company to see … Continue reading

Sting’s Daughter Seriously Hurt and Rodman Heads for Rehab

Sting’s 18-year-old daughter is proving that bad things can happen at any time. Coco Sumner is reportedly recovering from what some are calling a “freak accident,” that left her with a fractured skull and other serious injuries. According to reports, the teenage daughter of award-winning singer Sting remains in the intensive care unit at an L.A. hospital after collapsing at an area restaurant last week. Witnesses say Coco was sharing a meal with friends when she took a tumble in the eatery and hit her head on a chair as she fell to the ground. A source tells a British … Continue reading

Redmond O’Neal Gets Rehab

Redmond O’Neal, the son of actors Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett, is getting another chance at getting clean. The 24 year old was arrested on April 5th for drug possession. He took a friend to visit another friend in jail and when the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officers did a routine check, they found Redmond in possession of heroin. Redmond learned this week that he will go to an intense rehab program. The program will include frequent drug testing and court appearances. If Redmond can stay clean this time, he will no longer be on probation and have his … Continue reading

Wagging My Tail Goodbye to the Pets Blog

I’m sitting in my office looking out the window watching the snow melt from the rooftops and bushes as I’m writing this. Last night we got measureable snow, a bit of an oddity in December for us here in Nashville. Whenever we get snow like this now I think about the first winter I was writing for Families.com. We got snow one February and I took Murph outside to play in it, then wrote about it as my blog for the day later. How much inspiration I’ve drawn from my pets over the past two years since I first began … Continue reading

Inmates, Stray Dogs, and Rehabilitation

Last night one of the local news stations reported what started out to be a sad story about bad dog owners leaving dogs out in the cold to fend for themselves. The reporter was following around animal control officers who were on “cold dog patrol.” They round up dogs left in yards with no food or water and very little or no shelter. In some cases the dogs have been completely abandoned as their owners have since moved on. Concerned neighbors called in to make sure the dogs got help. I was happy to hear there are laws against this. … Continue reading
