What’s going on with Regis Philbin? The 75-year-old talk show host said he was seriously considering retiring after this season. And who could blame him? His daytime talk show, “Live with Regis and Kelly” just passed the 20 year mark (he’s remained a constant fixture though his co-hosts have changed over the years), his daughter is about to give birth to his new grandchild, and he just underwent major heart surgery that took him off the air for more than a month. But now in a move that is shocking fans around the nation, instead of slowing down “Reege” recently … Continue reading

Eating at Sea

Poor Paula Deen. Actually, rich Paula Deen. The celebrity chef was already rolling in dough, but with her recent announcement that she’s become a paid spokesperson for the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, and its diabetes drug, Victoza, Deen’s bank account is getting fatter every day. Unfortunately, the same seems to be true for the butter-loving diabetic. Just days after she made headlines for finally revealing that she’s been living with Type 2 diabetes for the past three years, TMZ posted a photo of the Food Network star chowing down on a cheeseburger and French fries while on a week-long Caribbean … Continue reading

Shop to Help Kids!

I’d like to remind all of our readers that we can use our holiday shopping dollars to support people around the world, including our children’s countries of origin. Charities and/or fair trade cooperatives, which provide local craftspeople training and the chance to earn a fair price for their work, probably operate in your child’s country of origin, whatever that may be. One website alone (SERRV, which I reviewed last year) carries plaques and sculptural art made by Haitian artisans using recycled oil drums. SERRV carries scarves and textiles from India, Cambodia, Vietnam and Nepal as well as tableware from Chile … Continue reading

Television Stars—Life and Death

She once said that she wanted to wait until her son was three before she added to the family. But it appears someone had other plans for actress Melissa Joan Hart. The “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” star just confirmed that she is four months along with her second child and her son Mason hasn’t even celebrated his second birthday yet. What do they say about the best-laid plans? Hart and her husband Mark Wilkerson married in 2003. Their ceremony was taped and later broadcast on cable TV in a reality series chronicling their nuptials. Despite being about halfway through her … Continue reading

Charitable Celebrities Who Should Be Celebrated

I consider her one of the most beautiful women in the world. Queen Rania of Jordan is so stunning (click here to take a look) it’s not uncommon that people are so distracted by her beauty they miss what she is saying. (A pitfall of being gorgeous, I suppose.) But, the 37-year-old mother of four has a lot to say on a number of important issues and it would be a shame if her audience wasn’t as captivated by the topic as they are with her good looks. Her latest venture is a great example. Queen Rania just helped open … Continue reading

“Bullwinkle” Writer Dies

Growing up, my after school routine consisted of carefully hanging my school uniform back in the closet, eating a snack, and watching an hour of cartoons on television. My mother allowed us to watch exactly an hour of TV prior to cracking the whip and making me (and my three brothers) complete our homework. When we were younger my brothers and I didn’t agree on much, but when it came to after-school cartoons there was never an issue our one and only TV would be tuned into “The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.” Sadly, I recently learned Chris Hayward, the Emmy-winning … Continue reading
