The Next Food Network Star

My kids are rushing through their baths tonight because in a little while The Next Food Network Star comes on TV. I’m not a big fan of reality TV shows, but we have watched the past two episodes as a family and have really enjoyed not only the show, but watching TV together. Most shows on TV these days just aren’t child friendly. Even the mild shows have language and sexual references that I’d rather not have to explain to small children. Two weeks ago there were ten participants, each week one person is dropped off the show. The winner … Continue reading

A New Food Network Star Is Born

I had blogged before about the show “The Next Food Network Star.” I had never watched it until my husband pointed out it had a former marine as a contestant. Being a food show junkie, I decided to watch it and was immediately hooked! Last night was the big finale. It was between two women – Rory Schepisi and Amy Finley. Rory’s point of view was Real Food for Real People and Amy’s point of view was the Gourmet Next Door. The finale was actually supposed to be between Rory and Joshua Adam Garcia (JAG) as Amy was eliminated the … Continue reading

Crazy 8s–The Lucky and the Unlucky

Clay Aiken’s new son may not be the luckiest baby in the world after all. Food Network’s Tyler Florence and his wife Tolan Clark Florence welcomed daughter Dorothy Tyler Florence on Friday, August 8th at 8:08 am as well. According to Florence’s rep, the new baby girl weighed 9 lbs and was 19 inches long. Dorothy joins big brother Hayden who is 14 months old. The celebrity chef is also dad to a 12-year-old son Miles from a previous relationship. As I mentioned in a previous blog, in China the number 8 is considered very lucky because the Chinese word … Continue reading

Sleep Deprivation and Infant Abuse?

The CDC recently published a shocking report. According to their study, 91,000 infants per year are abused or neglected during their first year of life and about 33% of those abuse cases occur within the first week of life. Experts everywhere are calling for more focus to be put on this critical time period of mom adjusting to caring for a newborn. Especially if the newborn shows traits of being colicky or fussy. (I just have to point out here that most babies aren’t colicky or really fussy in the hospital.) While the statistics are shocking there are a few … Continue reading

Oh Baby! Giada’s Pregnant and Nancy Has Twins

Celebrity chef turned “Today” show contributor Giada De Laurentiis is having a baby. And to illustrate just how skinny she is, the almost 5-months pregnant Food Network hottie says she hasn’t had to buy maternity clothes yet. (If De Laurentiis wants to keep her female audience she should really think about limiting those types of comments.) What’s more, the good-looking TV chef revealed that she has been giving into her starchy cravings for months. I must say I was stunned when I heard the news. Giada is my favorite Italian chef. I have a couple of her cookbooks and am … Continue reading

Celebrity Baby Ba Ba Ba Boom

The singer whose music helped push me through all 26.2 miles of the Chicago marathon (and whose tunes helped me get over a split from my college boyfriend) just had a new baby. Sarah McLachlan and her husband Ashwin Sood welcomed their second daughter last week. The newest Sood joins big sister India Ann who is 5-years-old. The actor who I watched throughout middle school try to get his costar to remember who he was (remember when Hope came back as amnesia ridden Gina) is about to be daddy. “Days of our Lives” actor Peter Reckell and his wife of … Continue reading

Super Baby

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Super Baby! Okay, he can’t fly and he doesn’t have x-ray vision, but he’s making headlines around the world nonetheless. “Super Tonio,” is the talk of Cancun, Mexico. Weighing in at a whopping 14.5 pounds, the big fella has put the popular Mexican resort city of Cancun in the records books. Visitors to the tropical vacation destination are leaving the sand and surf behind to stand outside a nursery ward window to catch a glance of Antonio Vasconcelos, who was born early Monday by Caesarean section. Nurses at the hospital where the massive … Continue reading
